Speculative Futures: AI and Design

What is the role of artificial intelligence, augmentative reality, and speculative design in the process of reimagining the future? How can we inspire people to rethink the use of everyday objects and reduce waste by giving them a renewed purpose? How can we strengthen our ability to influence the future?

Those are just some of the questions for our guest for the seventh in a row at the BGGD Meetup, Simone Rebaudengo, an Italian designer who has been living and working in Belgrade for some time now. He is one of the co-founders of oio.studio where he and his colleagues focus on exploring the implications of living and interacting with networked, smart, and autonomous systems.

Simone works in the realm between art and industry, with clients and big companies such as: IKEA, Google, FROG, and the Museum of the Future, creating so-called actual products while designing fictitious and speculative objects that are displayed in galleries and museums. His primary focus is on the near future, employing objects and prototypes to spark debate and stimulate human creativity.

Guest speaker:

Simone Rebaudengo is co-founder and creative director  at oio studio, a creative company on a quest to turn emerging technologies into an approachable, everyday, and sustainable reality for humans and beyond. Previously, he designed future scenarios and products for The Museum of the Future in Dubai, founded a design fiction practice called Automato.farm, and was lead designer at BMW Designworks and Frog. His work focuses on building experiential visions of the future and exploring the implications of living and interacting with networked, smart, and not-so-human things. His projects have been awarded by the Red Dot Design Award, Core77, and Interaction Awards and exhibited in galleries and museums such as the Vitra Design Museum, the Triennial Museum in Milan, and MAK Vienna.
