On November 14 and 15, 2024, Belgrade will become the epicenter of the global dialogue on the most important topics of the green transition when it hosts the first prestigious conference organized by the Sustainable Development Forum (SDF), with the support of the University of Cambridge, the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, and the United Nations agency nation. This two-day conference will bring together the world's most influential experts, government officials, and representatives of leading foreign and domestic companies that are leaders in sustainable development.
The list of speakers includes some of the most respected names in world science and business. They include Lord Martin Rees, Astronomer Royal and former President of the British Academy of Sciences; Michael Pollitt, professor of business economics at the University of Cambridge and one of the world's leading experts in the field of electricity; Frank Liu, founder and president of INTCO, a pioneer in plastics recycling and medical technology; Jorge Laguna-Celis, director of One Planet Network (UNEP), as well as other prominent representatives of the United Nations.
In addition to world-famous names, representatives of Serbian companies that lead the green transition in the region confirmed their participation in the conference. Their presence and participation in the discussions will underline the strategic importance of local industry in the implementation of global sustainable development goals. Hundreds of participants from around the world are expected to attend, which will provide a platform for key discussions on climate change, environmental crises, energy transition, and sustainable production and consumption.
Special attention will be paid to the challenges faced by the 'global south' - regions that, despite minimal contribution to negative climate changes, are particularly affected by their consequences. The effects of the global ecological crisis on health and what further consequences it has on the economy will be discussed. In addition, the challenges of financing the green transition and the role of financial institutions in initiating and supporting these changes will be discussed. Finally, special attention will be paid to the role of science in the fight against climate change and taking decisive steps towards a green transition and sustainable development. There will also be words about the local green transition and ways to improve it.
This conference places Belgrade at the epicenter of the global discussion on the challenges of the green transition and provides a unique opportunity for Serbian companies to connect with global leaders and present their solutions to the international community. The synergy of UN experts, representatives of national and international institutions, business, and academia contributes to a more comprehensive overview of the green transition, better joint cooperation, and innovative solutions.
