TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR WORK
I edit and run a news publication focused on Mozambique, which I and my wife set up while living in Mozambique. We were forced to leave Mozambique in February 2021. We have spent 6 months in Belgrade but will be relocating to the Netherlands in late November.
WHAT IS YOUR COMPANY OR BUSINESS FOCUSED ON?
Focused on providing news and analysis on Mozambique. Users and audience is mainly in Mozambique.
HOW DID U END UP IN BELGRADE?
We needed somewhere to go that was not in the European Union, and was affordable, somewhere for our kids to go to nursery, and ideally that was not too locked-down. Belgrade had all those things we needed at that time!
WHAT IS YOUR EXPERIENCE WORKING FROM BELGRADE?
It’s been great, Nova Iskra has been a lovely place to work from, reliable internet etc. We have had a successful time here.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE PLACES IN BELGRADE?
Ada Ciganlija during the summer was our favourite place. Now we like taking the kids down to the Waterfront, or to Kalemegdan.
WHAT IS THE PERFECT WEEKEND IN BELGRADE FOR YOU LOOKS LIKE?
A slow Saturday morning, doing a bit of work and drinking coffee, then head out to Ada Ciganlija to spend the afternoon in the sunshine. In the evening take the kids to play in a park. Perhaps on Sunday drive out to Kabinet brewery or Fruske Terme in Vrdnik.
WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST CULTURAL CONTRAST YOU NOTICED WHEN YOU MOVED HERE
I find Serbs very easy to get on with and have enjoyed being in this culture which I feel very at home in.
WOULD YOU RECOMMEND BELGRADE AS THE PLACE TO WORK FROM?
Yes I would, it’s friendly, relaxed, people are well educated, and life is very affordable.
