The Serbian Games Association (SGA) has published its annual report on the domestic gaming industry for 2023, revealing impressive growth despite global challenges.
Key findings include:
- Serbian-produced games have been downloaded over 100 million times.
- A record 475 new positions will be opened this year.
- Women constitute 28% of the workforce.
- 57% of companies are developing original IP.
- The industry comprises 150 companies, studios, and teams.
- Total revenue exceeds 175 million euros.
The most notable change is a 98% increase in employment, driven by an influx of gaming professionals from Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. This has raised the number of gaming professionals in Serbia to 4,300.
The report, developed with PwC Serbia, provides detailed data on revenues, companies, employees, and the gaming ecosystem. Most companies thrive on direct sales, ensuring their independence and growth. The main development hubs are Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Niš. Women make up 28% of the workforce, and half of the teams are led by women. Programming, artistic professions, and quality control are the top employment areas.
Challenges persist, including funding, high taxes, and bureaucratic hurdles. The report also features expert articles on industry trends, business, and education.
